Mr. Chandra Prasad Dhakal is the President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), the apex body of the private sector in Nepal.

Mr. Dhakal, is the first generation serial entrepreneur of Nepal. He and his brother Hem Raj Dhakal co-founded the IME conglomerate of businesses.

He is also Chairman of the IME Group, leading more than two dozen enterprises in various sectors, including banking, remittance, energy, tourism (Cable Car, Five Star Resorts, Theme parks) automobile, insurance, information technology, and infotainment, among others.

At present, the IME Group, under Mr Dhakal’s leadership, has generated more than 25,000 job opportunities both directly and indirectly. Mr Dhakal embarked on his business journey with a small-scale grocery store in 1984/85. In 1996, he initiated a cargo and international freight forwarding management company, Mt. Pumori Air Cargo Pvt. Ltd and CM Trading Company.

Currently, Mr. Dhakal led IME Group has been able to generate more than 45 thousand job opportunities directly and indirectly. The business expedition of Mr. Dhakal started from a small-scale grocery store in 1994. In 1996, he started a cargo and international freight forwarding management company, Mt. Pumori Air Cargo Pvt. Ltd. Later in 2001, he incorporated IME Remit, the first remittance company of Nepal, with a vision of establishing a formal, secure and fast method to facilitate cross-border money transfers.
Mr Dhakal has significantly contributed to formalising and institutionalising remittance inflow in Nepal. His visionary leadership has not only enabled widespread financial access even in remote areas but also connected people globally through a digital wallet – IME Pay, establishing IME as a catalyst for socio-economic transformation in Nepal.
Later, in 2001, he founded IME Remit, the first remittance company in Nepal, with a vision to establish a formal, secure, and fast method for facilitating cross-border money transfers. Starting as a daring venture in a single room, IME has grown to become an industry pioneer and leader, continuing its legacy as one of the most recognised and trusted names in the remittance industry.
With the intention to develop at least one large infrastructure in each province, the IME Group is diligently working on constructing cable cars in all provinces to promote tourism and hospitality in the country.

Additionally, as the chairman of Global IME Bank, he has successfully orchestrated the merger and acquisition of five commercial banks, ten development banks, and six finance institutions, transforming Global IME Bank into the largest bank in the country.

Besides contributing to the national economy, the IME Group has been equally active in philanthropy, building a solid foundation for education and primary healthcare, especially for economically underprivileged children from all around the country through the IME Foundation, a CSR initiative. Despite the chaos and panic caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the IME Foundation remained at the forefront, offering humanitarian services both within and outside the country.

Furthermore, he has been awarded the ‘Commercially Important Person Award – CIP’ by the Government of Nepal on numerous occasions. Similarly, IME has been recognised with the ‘Largest Taxpayer Award’ for four consecutive years, based on Nepal’s highest tax paid among remittance businesses.

He was also honoured by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of the Republic of Indonesia, for his contributions to the rescue and relief efforts during the 2015 earthquake. Mr. Dhakal has served as Nepal’s Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia since 2010.
Mr Dhakal has received several prestigious awards, including ‘Sukritimaya Rastradeep’, ‘Prabal Janasewashree (Fourth)’, and ‘Gorkha Dakshin Bahu IV’, conferred upon him by the Government of Nepal for his contributions to the economic growth and prosperity of the country.

IME Automotives has acquired the authorized distributorship of Escorts Construction Equipment for Nepal.
