He is also Chairman of the IME Group, leading more than two dozen enterprises in various sectors, including banking, remittance, energy, tourism (Cable Car, Five Star Resorts, Theme parks) automobile, insurance, information technology, and infotainment, among others.
Mr Dhakal has significantly contributed to formalising and institutionalising remittance inflow in Nepal. His visionary leadership has not only enabled widespread financial access even in remote areas but also connected people globally through a digital wallet – IME Pay, establishing IME as a catalyst for socio-economic transformation in Nepal.
With the intention to develop at least one large infrastructure in each province, the IME Group is diligently working on constructing cable cars in all provinces to promote tourism and hospitality in the country.
Additionally, as the chairman of Global IME Bank, he has successfully orchestrated the merger and acquisition of five commercial banks, ten development banks, and six finance institutions, transforming Global IME Bank into the largest bank in the country.
Besides contributing to the national economy, the IME Group has been equally active in philanthropy, building a solid foundation for education and primary healthcare, especially for economically underprivileged children from all around the country through the IME Foundation, a CSR initiative. Despite the chaos and panic caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the IME Foundation remained at the forefront, offering humanitarian services both within and outside the country.
Furthermore, he has been awarded the ‘Commercially Important Person Award – CIP’ by the Government of Nepal on numerous occasions. Similarly, IME has been recognised with the ‘Largest Taxpayer Award’ for four consecutive years, based on Nepal’s highest tax paid among remittance businesses.
He was also honoured by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of the Republic of Indonesia, for his contributions to the rescue and relief efforts during the 2015 earthquake. Mr. Dhakal has served as Nepal’s Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia since 2010.
